 Compression Software
Hi
i want to know which software offers the best compression?
I mean if i have a 3 MB folder with which software i could reduce that size to 1.5 MB and how?

i use 7zip compression.
Note:
compression ratio depends upon the kind of file.

Like i said i would like to compress a folder ok that above was an example, but is it maybe possible to compress that folder to let's say 2 MB.

Like I said it depends upon the files..
for example the folder contains mp3. It won't be compressed anymore.
if it contains images it can have a high compression ratio.
try also tar.gz compression
Note:
folders don't have file sizes (or very very very minimal) it's on their contents.

well the only compression software i am using is winzip, winrar.
But i dont think so that they reduce the size to almost half of the original size

I use the simple 7-zip software. For a paid one you could buy WinZip. These are both really good softwares.

i gotta agree with what has been mentioned before - 7zip's .7z format has a pretty good compression, better than .zip or .rar, usually. although, if i compress something just to save space on my HD, i usually put it in .tar.gz, since that's the most common in linux.

For all i have used, tar.gz is the one i found that has the highest compression ratio.

could you give me some examples of file sizes before and after.
but you can have that compression only under linux, right?

Try KGB Archiver.. takes a lot of time to archive... but makes the files really but really small!
