There are many unnecessary services that you can stop in Vista and XP.
These services use up memory and CPU cycles so stopping them can increase your computers performance.
Knowing which ones can safely be stopped can be confusing so I have included some lists.
You can see what services can be safely stopped in XP here: http://techrepublic.com.com/i/tr/downloads/home/windows_xp_services_that_can_be_disabled.pdf
For Vista go here:http://www.speedyvista.com/services.html
To stop the services in XP just click Start/Run, and type in "msconfig" without the quotation marks, and hit enter. Click on the services tab and uncheck the box next to the service that you wish to disable and click ok then restart.
In Vista click start and type in "msconfig" without the quotation marks, and follow the above instructions.
